Thousands brave the heat at this year's Four State Farm Show

Parsons, Kansas — It is just about inevitable, July in Kansas is going to be hot, which, in turn, means that it is going to be hot at the Four State Farm Show, which was held last weekend near Pittsburg, Kansas.

This year though, hot almost seemed like an understatement. It was not just hot, it was really, really hot and that heat took its toll on the Show.

Yet, even with the mercury rising in the thermometer, a good crowd was still on hand for the 37th edition of the Four State Farm Show.

According to Four State Farm Show coordinator, Ted Gum, the heat this year was definitely a factor, but the show continued to be successful.

“I think that the hot weather had an impact on attendance at this year’s Farm Show,” Gum said. “But, we still had a strong showing. We saw a lot of people coming early, getting their shopping done and then leaving.”

For the brave souls that did make it out to the show they were welcomed by exhibitors and vendors with all of the latest in agricultural equipment and technology.

Whether they were just looking, or if they were there for a specific purchase, they got the opportunity to visit one-on-one with a wide range of area dealers and factory representatives.

This year’s Four State Farm Show hosted 700 booths, and the heat made its impact on the crowd, however, those that were there had buying on their mind.

“One of the keys to this Show is that it upheld its history of being a selling show,” Gum explained. “A lot of business was conducted during the Show this weekend and it kept that reputation of being a “selling” show.”

Whether there to buy or to look, there was something for everyone at the Four State Farm Show.

Not only did folks get to look at, climb on, and visit about all the latest agricultural equipment, they were able to see a fair amount of it work.

This year’s hay demonstration featured a number of mowers, rakes and balers, as well as, several pieces of hay handling and feeding equipment.

Like in years past, there was also a lot of interest in the Riding Lawn Mower Test Driving Range. Held each year at the Four State Farm Show, this gives folks the chance to try out a number of mowers to see which one suits them best.

With this year’s Show completed another one is already being planned for next year.

The 2012 Four State Farm Show will take place July 20, 21 and 22, which according to Gum, is one week later then usual.

However, in October, Farm Talk will once again host the Ozark Fall Farmfest in Springfield, Mo. Farmfest is scheduled for October 7, 8 and 9.
