Farm Talk's Top 10

January 19, 2010

The Top Ten coolest things about being a farmer:

10. It’s a real hoot to make stuff up on those government intended planting surveys.

9. They can honk all they want; when you’re moving your combine to the next field, the road is yours.

8. Your dog is tax deductible.

7. None of this nine to five, Monday through Friday stuff for you—you get to work all you want.

6. You don’t have to wear a necktie to work—a rain slicker, insulated coveralls, mud boots, ear flaps and gloves but no uncomfortable, restricting necktie for you.

5. You never ever have to buy a cap.

4. Markets up, markets down—the banker is always concerned about your health.

3. You can almost always come up with a reasonable-sounding excuse for being late.

2. Your accountant says you have a great sense of humor.

1. You can get instant sympathy from non-farm folks by telling them you have phytophthora root rot.
